Hierba Buena

Sónnica Yepes – Vocals

and

Thomas Hanz - Guitar

„Tangos – Canciones“

International Contest Award Winner „Voice and Guitar 2004“, Völklingen, Germany

Hierba Buena tells stories from everyday life, about love and life, in theatre-like settings with music, overlaid with recitations. Old songs from Spain and Argentina are included in their repertoire as well as original compositions and adaptations of modern pieces of music. Guitar and vocals interact energetically with each other, at times bright and fresh, at others melancholic and full of desire. In fine: “Canciones”, elegant and smooth, inspiring the audience to dream and enjoy, with the Hispanic world of emotions evolving in the course of the performance.

Pieces like „Hijo de la Luna“, made famous by Montserrat Caballés classical interpretation, Astor Piazzollas „Vuelvo al sur“ or „Libertango“ in a terrific version for solo guitar, or the world famous „Gracias a la Vida“ by Mercedes Sosa revive through the duo’s adaptations and melt into an intoxicating performance.

„Hierba Buena“ has received invitations to many events, including the „Philharmonie Essen“, the “Jazzfrühling Reutlingen”, International Guitar Festivals in Malmö, Sweden, and Grossetto, Italy and the Guitar Festival “Akkorde” (Chords) on the Hochrhein. In 2007, HIERBA BUENA performed as part of the supporting programme of the “Karlspreis” Award Ceremony for Javier Solana in Aachen, Germany and was introduced to the Spanish Royal couple.

The artistic intensity and congenial presentation style is extremely well received both by the audience and the critic. Resuming the “Guitar Festival Ruhr 2005”, the “Ruhr Nachrichten” wrote: “The duo HIERBA BUENA belongs to those musicians in the Ruhr area one shall have heard.” In July 2005, their CD was released. A second CD with new songs from Astor Piazzolla, Carlos Gardel and original compositions from the duo will be released in early 2008.
